This Artist 101 guide contains everything you need to know about Germany’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, S!sters.

Who are S!sters?

The first thing you should know about them is that they are not related at all. Moreover, they’ve just recently started performing together with one common dream. They did it – they won Germany’s national selection show Unser Lied für Israel (Our Song for Israel), and will be representing their country at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, Israel with their song “Sister”.

S!sters is a pop duo formed in 2019, consisting of Laura Kästel, aka Laurita Spinelli and Carlotta Truman, the latter of which is a household name in Germany having been a contestant on the third season of Das Supertalent, the German version of Got Talent, where she came 11th; and, one of two runner-ups on the second season of the German version of The Voice Kids. As for Laura, she is the sister of Jenniffer Kae, she won Kiddy Contest Vol. 8 in 2002, and later became a semi-finalist on the second season of the German version of Star Search. The German Eurovision broadcaster NDR brought the two singers together for the national selection show.

When are their birthdays?

Laura’s birthday is on September 29, 1992.

Carlotta’s birthday is on October 19, 1999.

What is their most popular song?

To date, their competing entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest “Sister” is their most popular number,

“Sister” was written by Laurell Barker (who also penned the UK’s entry “Bigger Than Us” for Michael Rice and Switzerland’s “She Got Me” for Luca Hänni), Marine Kaltenbacher, Tom Oehler, and Thomas Stengaard in 2018 originally as part of the Eurovision songwriting camp for Switzerland, but as it wasn’t chosen to take part in Die Große Entscheidungsshow, it was entered to take part in the 2019 German national selection show.

According to Barker, “the song is at large about women who, aren’t necessarily related, but who may feel intimidated or just thrown down by each other. It’s about making space for each other in the workplace and in life and in society. There’s room for all of us to be strong and powerful if that’s what we want to be.”
