Prince Frederik, Princess Mary: Palace breaks silence on Genoveva Casanova affair allegations

Publish date: 2024-06-02

The Danish royal family has finally broken its silence as rumours circulate about an alleged “affair” between Crown Prince Frederik and a Mexican socialite.

A week after pictures of the pair spending time together in Spain were published, a palace spokesman told Danish publication B.T. that they “do not comment on rumours of insinuations”.

Meanwhile, the woman at the centre of the scandal, Genoveva Casanova, has already shot down the “malicious” allegations of an affair and threatened legal action against Spanish magazine Lecturas, which was first to report the story.

Truth behind Prince Frederik cheating scandal

“I categorically deny the statements that suggest a romantic relationship between Prince Frederik and me,” Ms Casanova said in a statement.

“Any statement of this type not only completely lacks the truth but also misrepresents the facts in a malicious manner.

“This is already in the hands of my lawyers, who will take care of the pertinent steps to protect my right to honour, truth and privacy.”

Neither Frederik not his Australian-born wife, Princess Mary, have issued their own public statement.

It comes after new claims surfaced over the weekend regarding the “friendship” between Frederik and Ms Casanova.

The future King has been dogged by allegations of infidelity in recent days after Lecturas printed photos of the pair on their night out together in Madrid in October.

In a new development, Spanish TV presenter Susanna Griso revealed on her current affairs show on Friday that a member of “Geneveva’s entourage” had shed light on their friendship, which reportedly began after they met in the Alps on a high-end hunting trip.

“They know each other and have friends in common. They usually meet several times a year,” the TV host said on her show, as per Lecturas magazine.

“They tell me that they are private meetings that are with more friends of the group, some members of royalty. They meet and sleep in private houses.”

As speculation swirled around the pair this week, Lecturas printed further details of Frederik and Ms Casanova’s meeting, claiming they took in a Picasso exhibition before walking around a park and dining at a local restaurant.

The magazine then alleged that Frederik and Ms Casanova both went to her apartment building separately, and re-emerged two hours later.

Frederik met then-Mary Donaldson in Sydney during the 2000 Olympics and the couple tied the knot in a lavish, fairytale royal wedding in Denmark in 2004.

They share four children: Prince Christian, 18, Princess Isabella, 16, and 12-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.

Princess Mary appeared to be taking the added scrutiny in her stride in the wake of the rumours, as she joined Frederik in hosting the King and Queen of Spain on a state visit to Copenhagen last week.

Meanwhile, according to Ms Grislo, Ms Casanova reportedly went into hiding last week, after boarding a plane for an unknown destination and switching off her phone.

“The two have been in contact and have decided not to speak and not to fuel speculation at all,” the TV host claimed.
