Frisco ISD teacher quits her job after claiming that she was threatened by her students on Instagram.
An increasing number of professors are frustrated with students who behave badly but receive no penalties, which is only one of several problems they are concerned about.
Schools must take immediate action to identify ways to stop this from growing into a divisive cultural confrontation.
In Kacie Smith’s 20 years as a teacher, 11 of those were spent in the Frisco ISD. She discovered an Instagram account that was posting negative stuff about her during the previous semester; the account has since been deleted.
She did, however, provide screenshots that displayed intense hatred, including threats to use rocket-propelled bombs. The actions mentioned in the screenshot breached the code of conduct for the Geneva Convention. Smith admitted that she was afraid of the threat.
According to a police report, Smith instantly reported the incident, and Liberty High School principal Stacey Whaling notified the Frisco Police Department. However, it seems that nothing further was done on the case.
The resource officer from the Liberty School claimed that they had “reviewed the posts and found them to be mean in nature but did not contain any overt threats.” The officers also claimed that they had been forbidden to talk to anyone publicly regarding the matter.
Sgt. Stephen Byrom from the police department also confirmed that there were no actual threats made in the Instagram posts from the account.
The communications director from the Frisco ISD confirmed that they had looked into the case properly and took it seriously, but they also found out that the student had no means and intent to carry out the actions mentioned in the threats.
The officials believe that the students had no access to military weapons and that the posts were a reaction to teenage angst. Keeping in mind that what the student did wasn’t anything serious, it should be noted that such actions against faculty cannot be tolerated, and the accused student will be held accountable for his acts.
In a conversation with Dallas news, Smith claimed that she asked the school to remove the student from her class. The request was denied by the principal. Getting no favor from the school regarding the matter convinced Kacie Smith to resign from her position.
The student was suspended from the school for two days, which wasn’t confirmed by the district officials either.
A Department of Education report shows a 56% rise in “acts of disrespect towards teachers and staff” and a 48% increase in “classroom disruptions from student conduct.”
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, around 70% of schools have also reported an increase in the number of students who are seeking mental health services.
