The Sweet Meaning Behind Luke Combs' 'Better Together'

Publish date: 2024-06-14

Luke Combs actually penned "Better Together" before he and Nicole Hocking were, well, together.

"I wrote that one when me and my fiancée hadn't even started dating yet," he told The Boot in 2019. He said part of the inspiration for the song stemmed from the challenges of being a touring musician and having to leave loved ones behind for months at a time. "Before [Nicole] stopped working, that was really hard because she was working a 40-hour-a-week job," he said. "I was constantly gone, and constantly leaving her, but I took a lot of solace in the fact of knowing I was coming back to her too."

Combs also hinted that "Better Together" is an example of what his fans can continue to expect from him in the future. "I think there's definitely gonna be stuff, with us being engaged now, and eventually we'll be married and have a family," he said. "I think there will always be some sort of something like that somewhere in my music."

Combs and Hocking tied the knot in Florida on Aug. 1, 2020, so it's safe to say this country crooner will be writing about his relationship for the foreseeable future.
